About

At the age of fourteen, I was given the unique experience of becoming an Au Pair for a family in Montreal. This is when my passion for child development began. That passion continued to grow and as a result, I entered the Early Childhood Education program at Centennial College. I was most interested in child development and child psychology. I soon began the life long journey of motherhood and through my study of child development, I understood the importance of the first six years of life and the impact that the environment has on human beings. I applied the Montessori pedagogy at home with my own children as well as with those in my care.

My passion for both education and child development was strong and I wanted to do more. I studied business through Laurentian University and worked in both the education and the business world while I raised my children. I am now a mother of two bilingual adult children whom are both teachers. My daughter is a Montessori teacher and she also has a Business Degree. My son is an elementary school teacher, a French Major and a father of two darling little girls.

About

I am a mother of two boys, ages 10 and 14, and have been working with children for over 20 years.

I received my diploma in Early Childhood Education, with Honours, from George Brown College (Toronto) in 1999. Since acquiring my ECE, I worked in high risk/inner-city childcare centres in Toronto and operated a very successful in-home daycare program in Newcastle during which time I became a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE). Prior to my position at AMA, I was employed at a childcare facility in Whitby. I am also First Aid/CPR qualified.

I became interested in the Montessori philosophy and, after researching its methodology, came to the realization that it is in my nature to provide the same educational instruction, guidance, and nurturing care that Montessorian’s provide. This is a natural fit for me!

About

During all of my early years, from as far back as I can remember, my mom provided childcare at our home. I truly believe this experience lead to my love of children and to my keen interest in child development and early education. I studied Recreation and Leisure at Fleming College and received my diploma in 2011. I am currently working toward my Child Development Practitioner Certification as an Apprentice through Durham College. Being able to spend time looking after my niece and nephews, as well as the children here at Authentic Montessori Academy, has given me a great look into being a parent one day myself.

About

I became a Montessori teacher because of a deep appreciation and respect for the child. Through Dr. Montessori’s teachings I am able to provide the environment and guidance that cultivates the child’s independence and desire for a lifetime of learning. Dr. Montessori said, “You must find the work that satisfies your spirit.” This work renews my spirit daily and I am honored to guide the children as they grow. It’s amazing to see the world through the eyes of a Casa student as she excitedly discovers the carefully prepared environment. I find the Montessori Method to continually meet the child where she is and helps her to soar. I have always had a passion for working with children. I have over 20 years of experience working in the Montessori field, including running two of my own successful Montessori schools within Durham Region. What inspired me to apply at Authentic Montessori Academy is that I immediately felt a connection to the school and the unique sense of community that exists among the parents, teachers and students. I am thankful for the opportunity to work in a nurturing, loving environment where children can learn and experience new challenges that will help build their confidence while they work and explore. I look forward to success and new discoveries with an amazing team of teachers at Authentic Montessori Academy.

Favorite Quote: Education is a natural process carried out by the human individual, and it is acquired not by listening to words, but by experiences in the environment.
